            Tourism impacts on the authentic culture of Taiwan and the Yami Tribe

As tourists flocked to Orchid Island (Lanyu) every year to experience the peace and serenity of the authentic landscapes and the curiosity of these Yami groups, more pictures will be captured in cameras and phones. As a result, the identity of the Yami people will be more widespread when these pictures are up on various media channels and also through word-of-mouth back to their friends and families.

Hence, even more tourists will be interested in them and will be drawn to these sites to find out more about their traditions and lifestyles of fishing and boat racing. There will be positive impacts on the social-cultural factor as tourists travelling there enhance contact of the indigenous people and the modern world tourists. Tourists will be able to bring back the information on their cultures and educate others. As the tourist mingled with the Yami people, there is increase mutual sympathy and understanding of one another’s culture. From the video, we can know that the Yami People is at the Euphoria’s stage of Doxey’s Irridex when they welcome the tourists and do not feel any irritation from them filming the video.

In addition, through the “Flying Fish Festivals” which will be elaborate more on the calendar of events, communities of the tribes and tourists would be able to add vitality into it.
